emergency-dentist-richardson-txWhether it’s a knocked out, broken or severely aching tooth, dental emergencies are scary. It can be hard to remain calm when something’s gone wrong with your smile! But knowing you’ve got an expert emergency dentist in Richardson TX on your side can help. The team at Breckinridge Dental & Orthodontics is proud to provide excellent dental care when you and your loved ones need it most. Keep reading to learn what to do following a few of the most common types of dental emergencies.

Knocked out or missing tooth

When a Sunday football game or bike ride goes awry, a knocked out tooth can leave you in a panic. Here are some things to keep in mind to decrease discomfort and increase the chances of successful reattachment.

  • Locate the missing tooth and rinse away any debris
  • Make sure you handle the tooth by its crown rather than its roots
  • Store the tooth either in its socket, the cheek or a cup of milk
  • Visit the emergency dentist as soon as possible

When you come in with a knocked out tooth, we’ll do everything we can to reattach it and get you smiling beautifully once again. Missing teeth are easiest to replace in the first hour or two after loss, so be sure you get in touch with us immediately.

Cracked or broken tooth

Call Breckinridge Dental & Orthodontics as soon as you or a loved one experience a cracked or broken tooth. Collect all missing pieces to bring with you to the office, as reattachment may be possible. Ease discomfort with an over-the-counter pain medication, and reduce swelling by applying an ice pack to the mouth in 15 minute intervals.

Severe toothache

When a severe toothache presents a dental emergency, get in touch with us to find relief as soon as possible. Toothaches certainly don’t get better on their own — and left untreated, they can cause major problems that may eventually require extraction.

Keep in mind that children’s toothaches are often caused by something lodged between the teeth. If your child complains of dental pain, first help them brush, floss and rinse to see if that’s the culprit — and if not, call us immediately to schedule an emergency appointment.

Keep calm and call us immediately

In any dental emergency, the most important thing to remember is to remain calm. Contact Breckinridge Dental & Orthodontics immediately — we’ll provide urgent advice based on your situation and get you in to see the dentist as soon as possible.

Program our number into your phone for easier access! Because every minute counts in a dental emergency.
